통일신라 시대인 671년에 창건한 낙산사는 창건한지 1,334년이 되던 2005년 전각 대부분이 산불에 소실 되었다. 2005년 강원도 삼척,동해, 강릉, 속초 지역을 초토화 시켰던 화마에 천년고찰도 희생되었다. 불교계는 물론이고 전 국민들도 충격에 휩쌓였다. 그러나....부처님을 향한 불심은 소실되지 않아 현재는 모든 전각이 다시 복구 되었다.
